David Lee Winchell

David Lee Winchell passed away on Tuesday, September 14th, 2021 in his adopted hometown of Hemet, California. A resident of Hemet for the last 10 years, David has enjoyed perfecting the art of retirement. Some of his hobbies included: model trains and airplanes, robotics, woodworking, laser art and 3D printed toy design. David Winchell retired from the high tech industry in Silicon Valley in 2011, where he worked as a Sr. Software Engineer. He had the unique opportunity to be part of the early days of the Silicon Valley boom with a wide assortment of talented companies and people. Places including Stanford Telacom, Cisco, Hitachi, BofA and Logisticon. He was very passionate about many facets of technology, it's advancements and the furthered education for others in the tech world. David received a special award to honor his contributions to the Robot Olympics. Mr. Winchell was also a proud member of the United States Air Force from 1964-67, serving during the Vietnam War, where he received special accreditations. Upon returning home he worked his way through college working for the State of Michigan and earning his degree in Engineering from MSU in '74. In 1983 David met the love of his life, Melinda McElvaney, working at Stanford. Mrs. Winchell was a Sr. production manager, homemaker and mother. They enjoyed an incredible 38 years happy together; traveling for dog shows, events and RVing to exciting new places. David Lee Winchell was a quiet, intelligent, humorous, hardworking and humble man. He is survived by his wife, daughters, cats and dogs.
