Patricia Joyce Patencio

June 15, 1941 - March 4, 2022

Patricia Joyce Patencio, affectionately known as “Pat” or “Rosie”, was born on June 15, 1941 at The Soboba Indian Hospital on the Soboba Indian Reservation. She passed away March 04, 2022 at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. Patricia was devoted to her faith, Jehovah’s Witness, which she joined in the 1970’s. She proudly worked for Employment Development Department for over 25 years and also worked for Riverside San Bernardino County Indian Health Inc. (RSBCIHI) and Tribal Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). Patricia proudly served her Tribal community by serving on the Santa Rosa Tribal Council and represented her tribe as representative for various boards and committees. She is survived by nine children, including her four adoptive children. Chris (Maria) Patencio, Rancho Mirage; Moraino (Lisa) Patencio, Rancho Mirage; Patricia Ann (David) Schoolcraft, Cathedral City; Baseemah Arlene Salgado, Temecula; Janice (Edward) Bejarano, Mountain Center; Timothy Salgado, Mountain Center; Thomas Salgado, Mountain Center; Delilah Ham, Indio; Alyssa Ham, Indio; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and dear cousins Kenny Jose and Vikie Jose Sanchez. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, James & Beatrice Smith, daughter Noreen Patencio, son Robert J. Salgado Jr; grandsons Victor Leyvas, Mohammad Kabeer; brothers and sisters, James Smith Jr, Ernie Smith, Lester Smith, Margaret Smith Valdez; nephew John Valdez; niece Teresa Gonzales; cousin Helen Jose. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, March 24, 2022, at McWane Family Funeral Home, 350 North San Jacinto Street, Hemet, California. An all night vigil will be held at The Tribal Hall on Friday, March 25, 2022 starting at 5:00 P.M. Interment will be in Santa Rosa Indian Cemetery, Mountain Center, CA. on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 10:00 AM
