April 9, 1929 - March 27, 2019
Rose Schmidt passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 27, 2019. She was a beloved daughter, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born in Ottawa, Kansas, moving to Los Angeles with her family when she was six years old. She was the youngest of nine children, who all pre-deceased her. Rose met and was married to her husband of 44 years, Bob Schmidt, until his passing in 1997. They met at Hughes in El Segundo where she worked as a “Rosie the Riveter.” They raised their children in Fullerton, CA, moving to Sun City, CA in 1991 when Dad retired. She is survived by their four children, Linda Haines (Rick), Barbara Schmidt, Chuck Schmidt, and Bill Schmidt (Margaret). Rose’s grandchildren include Travis Haines (Ashley) and Ben Haines (Jennifer), as well as Robert Schmidt (Kim) and Nick Schmidt. Rose was the great-grandmother of Adam and Charlotte Haines. She was also an aunt to many nieces and nephews. As a stay-at-home mother and homemaker, she kept her children active in scouting, sports, and music. While her children were very young, she enjoyed her bowling league at Carter Bowl in Fullerton and her volleyball team at Adlena Park, also in Fullerton. She instilled kindness and treating others as you would like to be treated into her children. She was a Christian and was a long-time member of the Fullerton Foursquare Church. Rose loved children and was a child care provider for about 25 years. Her biggest loves were her roses and baking. She always had roses and other flowers in her yard, thanks to her “green thumb.” Her family and friends had fresh fruit from the fruit trees she planted in the backyard. Rose was a great cook but really loved to bake. She took cake decorating classes and made beautiful doll cakes and birthday cakes. She became famous for her banana nut bread that she made and gave to friends and family. She donated it to bake sales at her church as well as at the Senior Center where she enjoyed her bike club and friendship club. Rose loved us all and we loved her. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. Her memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2019, which would have been her 90th birthday, at the McWane Family Funeral Home, 350 N. San Jacinto St., Hemet. Donations in her honor can be made to Animal Friends of the Valley, 33751 Mission Trail, Wildomar, CA 92595.
